You ARE on Twitter aren’t you? If you’re reading this, you’re in network marketing, and you’re missing out if your not using Twitter. Twitter is bringing a significant increase of traffic to my sites. If you’re not using Twitter, then you’re using Pownce, Tumblr, Jaiku, Plurk, right? You ARE microblogging? No? Get going! Twitter is an incredible tool for developing your “brand”, your niche, your tribe. It is addicting. It’s a tremendous amount of fun. You will connect with people through twitter that you won’t meet anywhere else.
Organizing the stream of consciousness of the internet that is Twitter, is important from a business perspective. It’s also important for us download-happy ADHDers. There are hundreds of Twitter apps out there. If you use a Mac, Blackberry, iphone, etc they have they own set of apps. For those of us chained to our PCs, here are my 5 Fave Twitter apps:
Tweet Deck – Love this. You can only use one of your profiles at a time. Twhirl allows you to manage multiple profiles. Tweet deck has handy colums – one for the Twitter stream, one for @replies (public replies to you ) a colum for Direct Messages (for your eyes only), Twitscoop – a collection of keywords that lets you know in real time what the Twitterverse is talking about, and a column for your own group that you set up. I love it. It was very easy to understand.
Tweetbeep – I just learned about this from @AnthonyWhyms on his podcast with @Warner444. It is a critical app for those of you using Twitter for business. Select any keyword(s) in your niche. Tweetbeep will send the Twitterstream for each keyword right to your inbox. Allows you to participate in targeted conversations.
You will get a ton of emails so you might want a separate account for this or organize your inbox.
Twitterel – find people with related interests
Twitter Tools – posts your Tweets to your blog, and post your blog to your Tweets. This is a WordPress plug-in.
Ping.fm – Update all of your social sites at once. I would be lost without this. A caution with Ping – doing all of your tweets with this will drive people on Facebook or other social media formats crazy with too many updates. It will come across as spammy. For that reason I use ping.fm only 3 times a day.
Twittergrader – HubSpot scored on this one. Put your Twitter name in and Twitter grader gives you a score and publicizes it for you. Twitter grader also recommends folks to you with similar tag clouds. Lots of fun, especially for us competitive types.
There are hundred of twitter apps and twitter resources. I’ve also used http://budurl.com for shortening links and tracking. You’ll end up customizing your favorites for the way you are using Twitter. Let me know what your favorite app is and why you like it. MAC and Blackberry users let me know the best apps.
