Are you one of the 50,000 people that joined Facebook (R) today? Are you one of the millions of network marketers hoping to turn their Facebook page into a million dollar cash generating machine? Do you long into Facebook and stare at your profile wondering what to do next? (You’re not the only one). If teenage kids can build a network of thousands seemingly effortlessly, then why is it so hard for you?
In a word, agenda.
When teenagers and college are online, they don’t worry about being strategic. They aren’t trying to “protect their brand image” and they’re not trying to get leads and generate business. They are unguarded, just having fun, sharing what they think, and posting whatever.
Network marketers however have an agenda on Facebook (R). Make money, sponsor distributors, get orders, drive traffic to their websites. Get up to the 5,000 friend limit without Facebook(R) deactivating your account. The trick in using Facebook(R), or any other social media outlet successfully is to find that place, that blending of “just being you” and wealth building. I call it “strategic fun”.
As a network marketer, entrepreneur or business owner, it’s important to be personal, to let your personality come through, and remain professional. Since Facebook (R) allows only 1 profile per person, most of us will have family, friends, associates and prospects reading the same profile. I’m sure my nieces and nephews could care less on about my webinars on natural stress relief, and I’m sure that my clients and prospects don’t want too much information about Bomber, our dog.
The great thing about network marketing is that we often sponsor people by virtue of our lifestyles and personalities. Be upfront about your business goals and include your human side. Share a joke or a humorous observation. Share your faith and your politics avoiding offensive and polarizing language. Facebook (R) allows us to capitalize on network marketing’s advantage in a very systematic and duplicateable way.
If you were at a cocktail party or a baby shower, would you talk about your business non-stop? Use every comment as a way to plug your business? Hand people your business card at the first hello? I hope not!
The same rules you would use at a social event apply in social media marketing. Having said that, social media also allows you to periodically boast and promote your business, post links to your site and so on. The key is moderation. Too much and you spam. Too little and your business gets lost.
Share your life as a network marketer. Updates like – “just helped 2 people create prosperity online” and “grateful for such an awesome group of business partners” allow you to talk about what you do without pushing people away. If your company has good news or sale share it! New product launches can be a lot of fun. The important thing is the context of the relationship. The main rule in social media: “attract it, don’t force it”.
